Worthless Check Program

In 1997, North Carolina passed a law setting up a program to help merchants collect worthless checks. The Worthless Check Program serves several purposes:

  • It helps merchants collect worthless checks and bank charges
  • It allows merchants to collect money due to them without court appearances
  • It speeds  up the collection process
  • It allows the courts to concentrate on more dangerous crimes
  • It helps people to avoid criminal records
  • It saves people money by avoiding court costs
